 Anika Speedy - Director

Bikram YogaAnika gained certification to teach Bikram Yoga in June 2003. This is an intensive 9 week total immersion training program at Bikram’s Los Angeles Headquarters. After teaching fulltime in Australia, Anika went to Toronto to complete further teacher training.

Before discovering Bikram Yoga Anika spent 10 years working in senior business management positions in the field of advertising communications and direct marketing in New Zealand and Australia.

After her first Bikram class Anika was hooked and soon after decided to leave the corporate world to complete the teacher training and share her love of the yoga with friends back home in Wellington.

Glenda Swan

Bikram YogaGlenda is has been practicing Bikram Yoga for several years, and graduated from Bikram Teaching Training in Acapulco, Mexico in November 2008.

Glenda is a born and bred Wellingtonian, so probably a familiar face around our city. She has many years business and marketing experience, and more recently has been balancing part-time work and time with her family – wildly delicious hubbie Stephen and gifted children, Grace and Ben. Glenda is also involved in the community as a mentor for Project K and volunteer for Community Post.

A very good friend got Glenda into yoga just after her son Ben was born. Glenda was desperate to get back into exercise and the friend suggested Glenda join her and yes the friend said it will be hot, its 90 minutes, you have to look in the mirror throughout the class, you need to wear tight fitting clothes – the less the better – and it starts at 6.30am! Glenda still can’t believe she even made it to the first class, let alone through the entire class.

Glenda says that for her Bikram Yoga has not only made her realise that beauty really is from the inside, but importantly it’s made her smile and laugh (yes, often very loud)!!

   Sally Cook

Sally graduated from Teacher Training at Las Vegas in June 2010.  Three years earlier, after several lower back injuries, she decided she was too young to be having trouble getting out of bed in the morning, googled yoga classes in Wellington and decided to try a Bikram yoga class.  She was committed from her first class, not only because she was soon leaping easily out of bed, but also because the ‘90 minutes of open-eyed meditation’ helped her cope better with all aspects of her life especially at times of crisis.

She agrees with Bikram that we are “Never too late, never too old, never too bad, never too sick to start from scratch and begin again.”Sally has enjoyed living in Wellington for six years, although her roots are in Canterbury.

She has two adult children living in England whom she likes to visit, especially during the Wellington winter.

 Liz Kennedy-Good

Liz discovered Bikram yoga while living in London and working for the National Health Service in Marketing Communications. Ninety minutes in the hot room soon became integral in Liz's busy London life.  She found it the best way to keep grounded while balancing a hectic work schedule and social life.

In 2010 Liz moved to Berlin in search of new experiences. Fortunately Liz was able to continue her practice attending Bikram classes in German for a year.

On returning home to Wellington in 2011 Liz decided to live the dream and headed to Teacher Training in LA.

Outside the hot room Liz loves music and chasing the sun.
